On-farm management of nitrogen for milling wheat will be tackled by award-winning young farmer James Price at this year's HGCA/nabim Milling Wheat Conference on 25 February.
James, 30, who manages 1,200 acres at Woodstock, Oxfordshire, grows milling wheat on contract for a well-known retail brand. He is also part of HGCA's 'Be Precise' precision farming initiative, featuring in an N-sensor case study on variable nitrogen application.
In the study - available online at www.hgca.com/beprecise - James shows how growers can benefit financially from yield and quality improvements across the farm.
Mr Price joins a panel of distinguished key speakers at this year's conference in Hinxton, Cambridgeshire.
Jack Watts and Michael Archer from AHDB's Cereals and Oilseeds division will take a look at the global and regional outlook for cereals for the coming season, while Howard Leland from Allied Mills will focus on the consumer demands driving bakery purchases.
RAGT's Ed Flatman examines what makes an ideal bread and biscuit variety and HGCA's Simon Hook will update the conference on current food safety legislation and its impact on-farm.
The conference afternoon session will feature a short workshop led by specialist trainers K2 London on understanding grain markets, which aims to help growers understand the tools required to better manage price risk.
